Gardens, plants & flowers are not what you really think about when you think of NYC. In spite of this I have always photographed nature in the city in some way. When under lockdown from the Covid pandemic I felt a visceral need to seek out beauty in my environment (I live in Brooklyn). So, I began to photograph the plants and flowers to be found in the neighborhoods and parks of New York City in a more concentrated way. During this scavenger hunt for beauty, I began to see the plants and flowers as a reflection of the city itself. These images not only highlight the beauty that can be found but also the need for nature in our daily, city dwelling lives.
